The staircase

Walking through St John’s College last night after a dinner I came on this. Shot on an iPhone, and a reminder that the best camera is always the one you happen to have with you.

Paris in la Belle Époque

Extraordinary collection of high quality remastered prints from films made by the Lumière company in Belle Époque-era Paris, France from 1896-1900. Slowed down footage to a natural rate and added in sound for ambiance. Gives on an extraordinary feel life on the streets at the end of the nineteenth century.

Superiority personified

One of our cats, who persists in taking up a step midway down the stairs, and is resolutely unmoved by warnings of the attendant dangers thus posed to descending persons. Her obduracy reminds me of PG Wodehouse’s explanation of the superior attitude manifested by cats: they know that the ancient Egyptians worshipped them as gods.

Amazon Prime cat

Whenever a packet arrives from Amazon, our cats insist on exploring it after it’s been opened. Here’s the latest explorer testing it as a possible new residence.
